The Bear Underground:
WAYFINDING DESIGN PROJECT
Baylor University is the oldest educational institute in Texas. Our work with Baylor involves design projects that interact with incoming or current Baylor students. Currently, a number of student programs office out of the basement of the Student Union Building. Since the basement contained a large amount of empty wall space, Student Activities asked us to design wayfinding art that helped students find program offices. In addition, we aimed to make the bland basement hallways more welcoming and engaging.
We came up with the solution of branding the basement as the “Bear Underground” and created hand-painted signs to lighten the halls. In order to better promote the student programs housed in the basement, we created identity-based illustrations for each program. Each program office also received small room number signs outside their doors that maintained the same branding design.
Besides Student Activities, we also worked with the Union Board to on the brand development of Sundown Sessions.
